Citrulline malate is an amino acid derived from the metabolism of arginine and glutamine. Arginine has been well researched for its effects on the body’s and its function in nitric oxide production and vasodilation. Arginine must pass through the liver and be metabolised into several compounds leaving less arginine to be converted to nitric oxide. Citrulline Malate avoids metabolism in the liver which results in approximately 80% citrulline malate reaching the kidney to be converted directly into arginine and nitric oxide. Citrulline is more effective in increasing levels of arginine rather than supplemental arginine itself.
